La Trobe's largest regional campus in Bendigo is located next to the Greater Bendigo National Park, so students are close to the best sights and experiences.

La Trobe offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts, social sciences, communications, business, education, health, information technology, engineering, law and science. The Destination Australia scheme is designed to support and encourage international students to study in regional Australia. Students who are eligible for this award can receive scholarships worth up to AUD 15,000 per annum for up to four years. To be eligible for their preferred La Trobe course, students will need to meet the entry requirements for their chosen programme.

The university's courses have a range of academic and English language requirements. These requirements are in place to make sure that students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their studies.

Students may find that Australian university degrees are structured differently to the ones in their home country, and requirements may vary between courses. Broadly, students will need to have completed the international equivalent to Australian Year 12 with minimum scores for entry into an undergraduate program. Postgraduate programs (coursework) require students to have completed their bachelor's degree from Australia or international equivalent, in a relevant subject. However, there may be specific requirements for different courses, as well as for any higher degrees by research.

La Trobe has minimum English language requirements for undergraduate, postgraduate and graduate research study – this is an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with no band less than 6.0 in most cases. However, some La Trobe courses may need a higher level of English language proficiency than these minimum scores.

While IELTS scores are the primary measure of English proficiency for La Trobe, the university may accept tests other than IELTS if the student's overall score is the equivalent of the required IELTS score. These tests include:

  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT)
  • Pearson Test of English – Academic (PTE)
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)/ Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).

If students don't meet the entry requirements for their chosen course, then La Trobe also offers a range of pathway programs that students can use to gain entry into the course they want to study.
